Homework 10/03/09

A tale of two airlines and their Facebook fiascos:

The text is about two airline companies (Virgin and British Airways) which decided to create their own facebook profiles in their own benefit hoping they will attach a bigger number of clients and give their present ones more confidence.

The fact is that these two companies didn’t notice this idea could end in a fiasco, as the title says. Problems appear when some of their employees started to put online some derogatory comments about planes safety and also about costumers. These comments became public, at the point that companies decided to fire the staff members responsible of these comments.

Companies placed a policy that forbids publishing any comment about internal information without authorization. What’s more, knowing that internet is rising, companies also ask their managers for keeping an eye on the online activity to ensure rules are respected and to be immediately aware of any complain of their passengers.
