SUMMARY: Companies and social networks

In the text “Companies and social networks” it is stated that social networks not only allow to get the firm`s messages to a larger audience, but also can do damaging publicity. This is the case of Virgin Atlantic and British Airways (BA). Members of the cabin crew posted on Facebook an My Space negative comments about safety standards and costumers, reason why they were fired. In spite of BA forbidding their staff to post information about the firm, attacking customers has been a public-relations disaster. The crew members are supposed to use internal channels for these things. To end up managers have to make sure that rules are respected and companies should use “online watering holes” where people exchange gossip and views in order to avoid problems in the future.
